I may be the only one who really very strongly dislikes Jimmy Fallon. I just don’t find him funny. He leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t know what it is about him, but I never cared for his generation of SNL cast (but then I haven’t loved SNL since the “good old days” with Steve Martin, etc or Mike Myers, etc.
Not that I found Jay Leno super-hilarious either, but he seems more secure in himself. Jimmy just seems like he tries too hard to be funny. Maybe that’s just my opinion, though.
As I’m writing this, I’m watching his first Tonight Show. The best part of it so far has been Stephen Colbert coming out and pouring $100 worth of pennies all over his desk and Jimmy himself, before announcing, “Welcome to 11.30, bitch!” I loved that, but then I love Stephen Colbert, so I guess that makes me a bit biased. Oh well. Get over it.
I enjoyed U2’s performance on top of the Rockefeller Center, but the adverts for the new Tonight Show made it sound like they would be performing live on the show, in the studio, but it was a prerecorded show as the sun went down. Disappointing to say the least.
Will Smith was pretty funny too. With all the guest appearances they have hinted at for the rest of Jimmy’s first week, I will tune in with amusement to see how it all unfolds.
In the meantime, I will be waiting for the Olympics. And show the medal ceremonies, dammit!
